Convenience Stores
Among the most popular are: Seven Eleven, Lawson, Family Mart, AMPM, Daily Yamazaki. Here, you will find a large variety of healthy (and cheap) meals (yes! actual meals!) that can be purchased and taken back with you to your hotel room, or eaten while sitting in a park or in the train station. The staff will heat them up for you in one of the stores microwave ovens and give you chopsticks. Prices typically range from 100-600yen, depending on how big a snack/meal you are looking for. These are great places to try onigiri (rice sandwiches), or buy a salad or orange juice. Unlike popular misconceptions, orange juice does not cost $5 per glass. Instead, you can buy a 500mL carton for about 110yen. Brand names are different than in North America, but the juice is 100% real juice.
